Xbox Four Priorities Revealed as Console Prices Rise

Xbox four priorities put the console first, and they arrived the same week Series X and Series S prices rose by as much as 150 dollars.

Xbox four priorities is the shape of the plan Asha Sharma has just handed her staff. The first of them puts the console back at the centre of everything. It reached staff six days before that same console got up to 150 dollars more expensive.

More gaming coverage is available on Insider Saga.

Those two facts sit oddly together, and nobody has put them side by side yet.

What the Xbox four priorities actually are

Sharma set out a framework of four Cs in an internal memo obtained by The Verge: core, content, creation and connection. In practice that means putting the console front and centre again. It also leans on the biggest franchises and pushes further into film and television. On top of that, Minecraft becomes what she calls the world’s creator platform.

The context is bleak, and she says so. More than 200 million new players came to Xbox last financial year. Yet the business did not grow with them. Revenue fell 7 percent, a drop of 1.7 billion dollars, and roughly 1,600 people lost their jobs in early July.

So the target is simple. Xbox expects to return to growth by the end of the 2027 financial year, which closes on 30 June 2027. Game Developer has the fuller breakdown of the memo.

The price rise takes effect today

Here is the awkward part. Microsoft announced this rise back on 25 June, so the memo was written with the date already known. From today the Series X with a disc drive goes from 649.99 dollars to 799.99. The 512GB Series S moved from 399.99 to 499.99, and the 1TB model jumped from 449.99 to 599.99. Microsoft also discontinued the 2TB Galaxy Black edition.

The reason is memory and storage. Microsoft says both now cost more than two and a half times what they did, according to Variety. Worse, it expects those prices to double again by autumn 2027. That is the exact window Sharma picked for her recovery.

So the Xbox four priorities put the box first, and that box just became the hardest thing in the plan to sell.

August shows the gap between the plan and the month

Look at what actually arrives on Game Pass in August and the tension gets clearer. Beast of Reincarnation lands day one on 4 August, and Monsters Are Coming! follows on 6 August. Then comes Sandustry on 13 August and Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy on 27 August.

That is a decent month. Still, every one of those is a smaller game rather than one of the giant franchises the plan leans on. In other words, the subscription carries Xbox right now. Meanwhile the plan promotes the box to priority one.

Ultimately the Xbox four priorities are a bet that people will buy hardware again. Yet the hardware costs more from today, and the month’s best reason to own one is a library you can reach without it.
