Thirty two players arrived in Paris and half of them are already gone. The Street Fighter 6 EWC group stage closed with a result nobody planned for. Six players scraped in through the Last Chance Qualifier, and they advanced at exactly twice the rate of the twelve champions who were invited.
The bracket does not care how you got your seat.
What the Street Fighter 6 EWC group stage actually produced
Twelve players entered on invitations from the SFL World Championship. Only four of them survived, namely Tokido, MenaRD, Leshar and Booce_Lee. That is a survival rate of one in three.
The Last Chance Qualifier sent six players, and four of those made it through. Dual Kevin, Hibiki, moke and Lexx all advanced, while only Xian and Itabashi Zangief fell. Two thirds against one third, from the group everyone expected to be filler. The tournament bracket records every set.
The defending champion lost to the man who won the qualifier
Xiaohai came to Paris holding the last two titles, having won in 2024 and again in 2025. He did not arrive as a seeded defender though. Because he now represents Falcons rather than KSG, the title defence slot did not follow him, so he had to earn his place through Combo Breaker instead.
Group DD then ended him quickly. Phenom took the first set 3-1, and Dual Kevin finished the job 3-1 in the lower bracket. Dual Kevin is the player who actually won the Last Chance Qualifier, beating Hibiki 3-2 in its grand final only days earlier, as EventHubs reported at the time.
Daigo went out the same way. He opened with a clean 3-0 over Itabashi Zangief, lost 0-3 to Micky, then fell 2-3 to MenaRD. Fuudo, Punk, Sahara, Big Bird and Caba are all gone as well.
What the survivors face next
The sixteen now split into two groups of eight, again as double elimination with every match first to three. Four from each group reach the playoffs, which cut to a single elimination bracket where sets stretch to first to five.
The prize explains the intensity. First place takes $250,000 from the million dollar pool, plus a seat at Capcom Cup 13 and a thousand club points. Japan still holds the largest presence overall, having sent thirteen of the original thirty two.
So the lesson from round one is unglamorous but real. Match practice under pressure beat reputation, and the players who had already fought a bracket that week arrived sharper than the ones who had been waiting.
