Splatoon Raiders lands on Switch 2 this week, and it is a real change of pace for the series. Nintendo releases it on July 23, 2026 for 49.99 dollars, and it is the first Splatoon spin-off rather than another competitive sequel. A community claim about copies escaping early has also been doing the rounds, so we will get to that too. First, here is what the game actually is.
What Splatoon Raiders Switch 2 actually is
This is the fourth Splatoon game overall and the first spin-off, and it swaps the usual online turf war focus for a story-driven single-player adventure. Several outlets have compared it to a looter-shooter. You play a mechanic who flies Deep Cut, the trio of Shiver, Frye and Big Man, out to the tropical Spirhalite Islands in search of treasure. A storm forces a crash landing, so you set up a base and start raiding the islands while fighting off Salmonids. You can still play as an Inkling or an Octoling.
Co-op, weapons, and difficulty options
You do not have to go it alone. Splatoon Raiders supports co-op for up to four players, either through local wireless or online, and the difficulty scales with how many of you are playing. There are also three difficulty settings, named Tourist, Raider and Survivalist, plus an online system that lets you request help if a run goes badly. Nintendo has promised more than 100 weapon variations along with tanks and gadgets, and there is plenty of character and outfit customisation. Amiibo support returns too, with existing Splatoon figures and new Splatoon Raiders ones unlocking outfits. For more Switch 2 releases, see our Switch 2 coverage.
About that street date claim
Now the part worth being careful with. A Reddit post claims the street date has been broken and that copies are already out in the wild. The poster labelled it a grain of salt themselves, admitted they could not trace where the image came from, and warned others about spoilers. That is where it stands.
No established outlet has corroborated it. We checked Nintendo Life, Nintendo Everything, GoNintendo and VGC, and none of them report retail copies leaking early. Nintendo has not commented either. It is worth knowing that authorised press previews went live between July 13 and 17, and those official hands-on impressions can easily look like a leak at a glance. The claim is not impossible, since Splatoon 3 did leak online days before its 2022 launch, but plausible is not the same as proven. The talk of a required day-one patch is also just speculation, because the game is not out yet. If you want to go in clean, steer clear of unofficial clips this week.
