Resident Evil Veronica is Capcom's 2027 remake of Code: Veronica, rebuilt in the RE Engine for Switch 2, PS5, PC, and Xbox. Everything we know so far.

Capcom just gave survival horror fans a huge reason to look forward to 2027. Resident Evil Veronica is a full remake of the cult classic Resident Evil Code: Veronica. Capcom revealed it at Summer Game Fest on June 5, 2026, with a short trailer. Better still, the studio is rebuilding it in the modern RE Engine. So a game fans have wanted remade for years is finally happening.

What is Resident Evil Veronica?

Resident Evil Veronica is a ground-up remake of 2000’s Resident Evil Code: Veronica, which first launched on the Dreamcast. Capcom is both developing and publishing it. The remake keeps the heart of the original story. However, it adds modernized gameplay, a reimagined script, and far sharper visuals. Capcom has confirmed it for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X and S. You can wishlist it now on Steam. The listing also lists single-player play, HDR, and full controller support.

The story so far

The plot picks up three months after the Raccoon City disaster. Claire Redfield has survived, along with Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin. Now she travels to France to search for her brother, Chris Redfield. However, she does not find him there. Instead, the Umbrella special forces unit behind the outbreak captures her. They ship her to a remote prison island. Soon after, another biological disaster turns Rockfort Island into a nightmare. As a result, Claire has to fight her way out on her own.

What is new in the Resident Evil Veronica remake

The biggest change is the camera. Like Capcom’s recent remakes, Resident Evil Veronica uses an over-the-shoulder view. That replaces the fixed camera angles of the original. The reveal trailer did flash a brief first-person shot. However, Capcom clarified that this was a cinematic choice for the trailer, not a gameplay mode. So the game itself plays in third person. On top of that, the RE Engine lifts the old Dreamcast game to modern, near-4K fidelity. The story has also been reworked, so even longtime fans should find fresh surprises.

Release date and platforms

Capcom has set a 2027 launch window. Several outlets report that the target is early 2027, possibly the first quarter. Still, Capcom has not locked in an exact date yet. The game also fits a bigger plan. Reports say a Resident Evil Zero remake is in the works after Veronica. So the series’ remake run looks set to continue for years.
