PS5 Games Coming in September 2026 already make next month one of the busiest periods of the year. Marvel’s Wolverine, Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Dune: Awakening are all arriving within weeks of each other, but Sony has now made the calendar even more crowded.
PlayStation Plus members will get four Monthly Games on September 1: Sniper Elite: Resistance, MLB The Show 26, Wobbly Life and Chained Echoes. That means some PS5 owners could enter September with four new games waiting before they spend anything on the month’s biggest releases.
PS Plus Gets September Started Immediately
Sony is not making subscribers wait until the middle of the month. All four September Monthly Games become available on September 1 and can be claimed until October 5. The lineup is also unusually varied.
Sniper Elite: Resistance gives players a full tactical shooter built around stealth and long-range combat. Its campaign can be played alone or in co-op, while Axis Invasion lets another player enter a campaign as an enemy sniper.
MLB The Show 26 covers the sports side of the lineup and comes only to PS5. It includes Road to the Show, Diamond Dynasty and other modes, while PS Plus members also get access to a limited Jump Start Bundle. Then things get much less serious.
Wobbly Life Could Be September’s Surprise PS Plus Hit
Wobbly Life may not have the name recognition of Wolverine or MLB, but it could become one of the easiest games in the lineup to keep installed. It is an open-world sandbox where players can explore, complete jobs, solve puzzles and generally create chaos with the game’s physics. Up to four people can play together through online multiplayer or local split-screen.
That immediately gives it a different role from most of September’s bigger releases. Wolverine is a single-player action game, Onimusha focuses on sword combat and Dune is a large survival adventure.
Wobbly Life is something players can load up with friends without worrying about finishing a huge story. It also includes an Arcade mode with activities such as Hide & Seek, Wobble Run and other smaller games. That could make it one of those PS Plus additions people download as a joke and end up playing far longer than expected.
Chained Echoes Gives RPG Fans Something Completely Different
The fourth game is Chained Echoes, a retro-style RPG inspired by the 16-bit era. Players explore the world of Valandis while a group of heroes tries to stop a war between three kingdoms. The game mixes swords and magic with mechanical suits, giving it a very different style from the other September games.
Sony is offering the PS4 version, but PS5 owners can play PS4 games through backward compatibility. That makes Chained Echoes another good option for anyone who wants something smaller between September’s giant releases. And players may need those smaller games.
Onimusha Arrives Only Three Days Later
PS Plus goes live on September 1, and then the paid releases start almost immediately. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 4 after Capcom moved the game forward from its original September 25 date.
The new Onimusha follows Miyamoto Musashi through a dark version of early Edo-period Kyoto filled with supernatural Genma enemies. It is also the first completely new Onimusha game in more than 20 years.
Moving the launch forward gives Capcom some space before one of Sony’s biggest games arrives later in the month. But it gives PS Plus subscribers only three days to enjoy their new games before another major release appears.
Wolverine Takes Over September 15
The biggest PlayStation release of the month arrives on September 15. Marvel’s Wolverine is Insomniac’s next major superhero game and one of Sony’s biggest PS5 exclusives of 2026.
Recent reveals have shown Logan’s Rage system, Special Techniques, dozens of Adaptations, different claws and a large collection of suits. Insomniac is also including New Game Plus, Mission Replay and challenges, giving players reasons to continue after finishing the story.
For many PS5 owners, Wolverine will probably become the game that pushes everything else into the backlog. The problem is that September still will not be finished.
Dune Arrives One Week Later
Dune: Awakening comes to PS5 on September 22. The survival game lets players explore Arrakis, build bases, craft equipment and deal with the dangers of the desert.
The PS5 version also launches with a full single-player mode alongside its online experience. That means another potentially huge game arrives only seven days after Wolverine. Anyone trying to complete every September PS Plus game before moving onto Wolverine and then Dune may need a much longer month.
September Is Becoming a Backlog Disaster
The funny thing about September is that none of these releases needs the others to make the month interesting. Wolverine alone would make September important for PS5. Onimusha brings back a series fans have waited decades to see again, while Dune gives console players another huge world to disappear into.
Now PS Plus adds four more choices before any of that really begins. Sniper Elite offers stealth and shooting. MLB covers sports. Chained Echoes gives RPG fans something old-school, and Wobbly Life brings a much lighter multiplayer sandbox.
Sony has basically given PS5 owners a warm-up backlog before September’s real backlog even starts. For players, that is a pretty good problem to have. For their free time, maybe not so much.
