A series of alleged GTA 6 leaks has caught the attention of Rockstar Games fans, with purported gameplay footage and a map surfacing online. Rockstar has reportedly issued DMCA takedown notices to users sharing the leaked material.
“I can confirm Rockstar is currently taking down tweets based on DMCA report screenshots I’ve been sent. DO NOT POST THESE LEAKS,” Ben wrote on X.
Several short clips appear to show Jason playing basketball, driving around and fighting an NPC. At almost the same time, another image appeared online claiming to show the full map of Leonida.
If everything is real, this is a major GTA 6 leak. But Rockstar has not confirmed any of it yet, and the map in particular deserves a closer look before we accept it as genuine.
The timing could hardly be more interesting either. Rockstar is preparing to show GTA 6: An Extended Look on August 27, so fans may now be seeing some of the things they expected Rockstar to reveal itself.
Jason Can Apparently Play Basketball
The gameplay footage is much easier to understand than the map.
One clip appears to show Jason outside a waterside home. The location looks similar to the property Rockstar has already shown in official GTA 6 material.
Jason walks over to a basketball and starts shooting hoops.
The footage shows him picking up the ball, aiming and taking a shot. A small Focus stat also appears on screen after the attempt.
It is a simple activity, but that is why it is interesting.
GTA games are at their best when the world gives you things to do between missions. Basketball around Jason’s home would be another small activity players can find while exploring Leonida.
Other clips appear to show Jason driving and fighting.
One piece of footage shows him near a pickup truck before he gets into a fight with another character. We can also see parts of the HUD, including money and other icons.
Some parts of the footage look unfinished, which is worth remembering. If these clips are genuine, they may come from an older build of GTA 6.
Rockstar could have changed the animations, HUD and other parts of the game since then.
The Alleged Full Map Is the Bigger Leak
The gameplay is interesting, but the map is where things get much bigger.
An image circulating online claims to show the full state of Leonida.
Vice City appears on the eastern side, but most of the map stretches far beyond the city. There are large rural areas, highways, wetlands and a long group of islands in the south.
The map appears to split Leonida into five counties: Lummox County, Kelly County, Leonard County, Vice-Dale County and Mariana County.
Several locations also appear that Rockstar has never officially named.
Those include Dalton Island, Gloriana Key, Catalan Key, Catalan Bay and Tequesta Retreat.
If the map is genuine, Vice City is only one part of a much larger world.
The northern and western areas appear far less developed than the city, which could give GTA 6 a good mix of busy streets, small towns and open countryside.
The southern part looks completely different again. Islands, water and swampy areas take up a large part of the region.
That would also explain why Rockstar has already shown so many boats, airboats and other water vehicles.
But Is This Really the GTA 6 Map?
This is where things become difficult.
GTA 6 fans have been building their own maps for years.
They have used official trailers, screenshots and information from the huge 2022 leak to work out where different locations might sit in Leonida.
Some parts of this new map look similar to those community projects.
That does not prove it is fake.
A real map would naturally share details with fan maps if those fans correctly worked out the location of roads, buildings and landmarks from Rockstar’s footage.
But it also means someone could use those same fan projects to make a convincing fake.
There are also names on the leaked map that Rockstar has never mentioned. Until those locations appear in official material, there is no way to know whether they are genuine.
So the safest answer right now is simple: the map looks believable, but it is not confirmed.
Rockstar May Have Lost Some August 27 Surprises
The timing of all this is probably the most painful part for Rockstar.
GTA 6: An Extended Look arrives on August 27, and fans have been hoping it will finally show more direct gameplay.
Jason playing basketball is exactly the type of small detail people expected to discover during that presentation.
The driving and fighting footage could also give us an early idea of how Jason controls when players are simply moving around the world.
Then there is the map.
Rockstar has shown several parts of Leonida, but it has never given us the complete map. If this image is real, one of GTA 6’s biggest remaining secrets may have appeared online before Rockstar was ready to show it.
That still leaves plenty for August 27.
Short leaked clips cannot tell us how the final game really plays. Rockstar can show newer footage, explain its systems and give us a proper look at Jason and Lucia without forcing fans to study blurry videos frame by frame.
The same applies to Leonida.
Even if this turns out to be the real map, we still know very little about what happens across most of it.
For now, the basketball footage looks interesting, the fighting gives us another small look at Jason, and the map could be the biggest part of the entire leak.
The only problem is that we still do not know how much of it is real.
Rockstar may answer at least some of those questions when GTA 6: An Extended Look arrives on August 27.
