What Halo Campaign Evolved LASO actually unlocks with
The game hides 39 skulls, three in each mission. Naturally that is the number the guides quote, and it is the number most players grind out before they even open the menu.
The official requirement is far narrower. LASO uses 17 specific skulls. You only need to discover those 17 before the mode appears in the Campaign and Campaign Remix menus. You can read the list yourself on the official support page.
Microsoft even explains why everyone gets this wrong. In older Halo games there were fewer skulls, so All Skulls On genuinely meant all of them. As the series added more, the phrase came to describe a defined set instead. The name survived, but the requirement moved.
The 17 skulls, and what they do to you
Halo Campaign Evolved LASO uses these 17. Iron, Black Eye, Fog, Famine, Thunderstorm, Mythic, Grunt Birthday Party, IWHBYD and Boom. Then Eye Patch, Grunt Funeral, Malfunction, That’s just Wrong, Speed Limit, Pop, Temperamental and Johnny Ammo Seed.
All 17 stay switched on for the whole playthrough, and together they rewrite the basics. Your shields only recharge when you melee an enemy. Meanwhile the motion tracker vanishes, auto-aim vanishes, and you cannot sprint at all.
Ammunition is the quiet killer. Dropped weapons carry half their normal ammo, and Johnny Ammo Seed throws away whatever was left in the clip every time you reload. So the habit of topping up between fights now costs you rounds.
Then there is Iron. Die in co-op and you drop to the last checkpoint, but die solo and the entire level restarts.
The setting that can void the whole run
Here is the second trap, and it costs more than the skulls do. Halo states plainly that using difficulty modifiers will prevent these rewards from unlocking.
So you can finish all 13 missions on Legendary with every skull burning, and still receive nothing, because a modifier sat switched on in a menu. Check that screen before mission one rather than after mission 13.
Get it right and MYTHIC pays out as a 50 point achievement on Xbox, an achievement on Steam, and a Gold trophy on PlayStation. Ultimately Halo Campaign Evolved LASO stays brutal either way, but it does not have to start with 22 pointless collectibles.
