The GTA 6 Police System may be much smarter than anything we had in GTA 5. New leaked gameplay appears to show cops keeping track of Jason’s face, his clothes and even the vehicle he is driving.
Rockstar has not confirmed these details, and the footage may come from an older version of the game. Still, what appears on the screen gives us a good idea of what Rockstar may be trying to do with police chases in GTA 6. If the system works the way it looks, simply hiding for a few minutes may no longer be enough.
Police May Actually Remember What You Look Like
The leaked footage shows Jason getting into trouble after a driving incident turns into a fight. Police eventually become involved, and several small icons appear underneath the wanted stars.
One looks like a clothes hanger. Another looks like a person’s head, while the third shows a vehicle. The obvious explanation is that these icons show what police know about Jason.
If police have seen his face, they may recognize him again. If they know what he is wearing, changing clothes could help. If they have identified his car, driving the same vehicle past a police officer may be a bad idea.
That would be very different from GTA 5. In GTA 5, losing the police mostly means staying outside their line of sight until the wanted stars disappear. The car you use and the clothes you wear do not matter very much once the chase ends.
GTA 6 could make escaping feel more like an actual search. Players may need to leave the area, change vehicles or hide their appearance before returning. Masks could also become useful for more than simply making a robbery look cool.
The footage also appears to show six possible wanted stars. GTA 5 stopped at five, so a sixth level could bring back the maximum wanted level used in older GTA games.
Your Getaway Car Could Matter Much More
Another detail from the leak makes the police system even more interesting. Jason’s vehicle appears to have its own storage and loadout options. The footage reportedly shows a trunk menu with space for several items.
We do not know exactly what players can keep there. But a proper vehicle storage system would work very well with smarter police.
Imagine finishing a robbery and knowing the police have identified your car. Instead of waiting under a bridge for the wanted level to disappear, you might need to abandon that vehicle and find another one.
A later leaked clip appears to support that idea. Fans noticed that after Jason moved into a different vehicle, the police did not appear to recognize that vehicle in the same way. That still needs to be confirmed in the final game.
But if Rockstar really connects vehicles, disguises and police searches together, getaway planning could become much more important.
The leak also appears to show fuel and vehicle-condition indicators. That could create another problem during a chase. Taking the fastest car nearby will not help much if it is almost out of fuel.
GTA 6 Could Make Getting Caught More Interesting Too
The newer footage may contain another small clue. During an encounter with police, an option that appears to say Surrender can reportedly be seen on screen. There also seems to be an option to tag or focus on a police officer.
We still do not know what surrendering actually does. It could lead to an arrest instead of an immediate shootout. It could also give players another way to handle smaller crimes without turning every police encounter into a huge chase.
That would fit the wider changes seen in the leaked footage. Rockstar seems to be giving players more choices during ordinary moments. Jason can fight, interact with objects, use vehicle storage and take part in small activities such as basketball.
Police could follow the same idea. Instead of cops simply appearing and shooting once the stars get high enough, they may react differently depending on what you did and what they know about you.
Again, none of this is official yet. These videos appear to come from development footage, and Rockstar may have changed many of these systems since they were recorded.
August 27 Could Finally Give Us the Real Answer
We may not have to wait long to find out how much of this survived development. Rockstar will show GTA 6: An Extended Look on August 27. The company has not said exactly which gameplay systems it will cover, but the police system would be an obvious choice.
Fans have already seen police throughout GTA 6’s official trailers. What Rockstar has not explained is how they actually work when the player commits a crime. The latest leaks may have spoiled part of that answer.
If police really remember your face, clothes and car, GTA 6 chases could require much more thought than before. Getting away would no longer mean simply driving fast enough. You might have to make sure the police no longer know who, or what, they are looking for.
