GTA 6 Launch Day is still months away, but Rockstar’s next game is already becoming difficult to escape. GTA 6 preorder advertising has started appearing directly inside GTA Online, while a real California business has already decided to close on November 19 because several employees plan to be unavailable.
Then there is the much bigger claim making headlines: GTA 6 could reportedly cost the US economy around $1 billion in lost productivity on launch day. That number is only an estimate, but the fact that companies are already planning around GTA 6 shows why people are taking the idea seriously.
GTA Online Is Now Advertising Its Own Successor
The GTA Online main menu has become another place for Rockstar to push GTA 6. Players opening GTA Online can now see a GTA 6 preorder promotion sitting alongside the normal activities and updates they expect to find there. Clicking it points players toward Rockstar’s new game instead of another Los Santos event. It is a very smart move.

Rockstar already has millions of Grand Theft Auto fans inside GTA Online. These are people who have spent years buying cars, running businesses, completing heists and returning to Los Santos.
Instead of trying to find a new audience, Rockstar can advertise GTA 6 directly to the people most likely to buy it. GTA Online spent more than a decade keeping GTA 5 alive. Now it is helping Rockstar move those players toward Vice City.
The Timing Makes GTA Online Even More Interesting
There is something strange about this marketing push. Rockstar is happy to use GTA Online to advertise GTA 6, but the company still has not properly revealed what the next GTA Online experience will look like.
GTA 6 is currently being sold as a single-player game focused on Jason and Lucia. Rockstar has shown robberies, driving, relationships, combat, wildlife and dozens of activities around Leonida, but multiplayer remains one of the biggest unanswered questions. The current GTA Online clearly is not disappearing yet either.
Digital GTA 6 preorders include one free month of GTA+, which currently gives benefits for the existing GTA Online. That suggests Rockstar still sees plenty of value in keeping players inside Los Santos while GTA 6 gets closer. Rockstar may be slowly moving its audience toward the new game rather than switching everything over in one day.
One Real Company Is Already Closing for GTA 6
The stranger part of the story is happening outside gaming. California-based automotive company Burger Motorsports has announced that it will pause operations on November 19, the same day GTA 6 launches.
Several employees had already reported scheduling conflicts for that date. Instead of trying to operate with too many people missing, the company decided to shut down for the day. Customer support, shipping, engineering, order processing and other normal operations will be affected.

The announcement has a playful tone, with employees jokingly described as being unavailable because they will be in Vice City. Still, the closure itself shows just how seriously some people are preparing for GTA 6.
Taking a vacation day for a game is nothing new. An entire company putting the launch on its calendar is much more unusual.
Could GTA 6 Really Cost the Economy $1 Billion?
That brings us to the wildest number attached to the story. Reports claim GTA 6 could cause close to $1 billion in lost US productivity because so many people may take November 19 off work or simply fail to show up. That figure needs some important context.
It does not come from a published economic study. The estimate has circulated through gaming and technology outlets and has been linked to economist José García Montalvo.
So nobody can say GTA 6 will definitely cost the US economy $1 billion. There are too many unknowns, including how many people will actually take time off, how many will use paid vacation normally and how much work would truly be lost.
The number is better treated as an idea of how large the launch could become rather than a guaranteed financial hit. Burger Motorsports gives us something much more real: at least one company has already changed its working day because of GTA 6.
Rockstar Is Preparing for the Opposite Kind of Billion-Dollar Story
While businesses worry about lost productivity, Take-Two is preparing for GTA 6 to create huge amounts of money. The publisher expects between $8 billion and $8.2 billion in net bookings during fiscal 2027, and it has directly pointed to GTA 6’s November 19 launch as a major reason for that confidence.
GTA 6 preorders have also reportedly gone far beyond Take-Two’s internal expectations, although the company has chosen not to release exact numbers. That creates a funny situation.
November 19 could be a day when some companies lose working hours because employees want to play GTA 6, while Rockstar and Take-Two enjoy one of the largest entertainment launches in years. GTA 6 may hurt productivity in one place while creating billions in another.
GTA 6 Is Starting to Feel Bigger Than a Normal Game Release
That is what makes the GTA Online advertising so interesting.
Rockstar is not waiting until November to make GTA 6 feel unavoidable. The game is appearing inside GTA Online, across PlayStation marketing and throughout Rockstar’s growing launch campaign.

At the same time, people are already planning vacation days and businesses are preparing for employees to disappear. The $1 billion economic-loss prediction may turn out to be far too high. We will not know the real impact until the game actually arrives.
But GTA 6 does not need that number to prove how unusual its launch has become. Rockstar is already taking over the digital world its players have lived in for more than a decade. November 19 is when we find out how much of the real world follows them into Vice City.
