The GTA 6 Extended Look premieres on Netflix August 27 as Rockstar finally responds to recent gameplay leaks and calls the situation heartbreaking for its team.
Rockstar stayed quiet while several alleged GTA 6 clips spread online over the past week. Now the studio has spoken just one day before its biggest official gameplay presentation yet, but another leaked clip has already appeared around the same time.
Rockstar Finally Talks About the GTA 6 Leaks
Rockstar shared a statement with fans after days of leaked GTA 6 footage appearing across social media. The studio said seeing its gameplay appear online this way has been “heartbreaking” for the team.
Rockstar also apologized for how long fans have waited to see more of the game. The studio said GTA 6 is “nearly there” and promised that the Extended Look will finally give players more official gameplay and details.
The company also admitted that the leaks may hurt the experience for some players. Rockstar hopes fans who want to avoid spoilers can still experience the game properly when it launches in November.
The statement comes after several clips reportedly showed unfinished GTA 6 gameplay, including Jason driving, fighting, visiting different locations and taking part in open-world activities.
Rockstar did not go into detail about where the footage came from or who leaked it. Instead, the studio focused on its development team and thanked fans who supported the company during the past week. That makes the timing of another alleged leak even more unusual.
A new clip called “Rideout Customs” started spreading around the same time as Rockstar’s statement. The footage appears to show Jason near a custom car shop before driving through Vice City at night.
The clip also reportedly includes a brief look at Lucia. Rockstar has not officially released or confirmed this footage, so fans should still treat it as unfinished material rather than a look at the final game.
The bigger point is that Rockstar’s response has not immediately stopped the leak wave. New footage continues to appear just hours before the company plans to show GTA 6 on its own terms.
GTA 6 Extended Look Could Finally Change the Conversation
Rockstar will premiere the GTA 6 Extended Look on Netflix on August 27 at 3 p.m. ET. The company will then release the presentation on its official YouTube channel and GTA 6 website at 9 p.m. ET on the same day. This will give Netflix viewers a six-hour early window before everyone else can watch the presentation for free on YouTube.
The timing makes the event even more important now. Fans have spent days looking at unfinished clips, bugs and parts of GTA 6 that Rockstar never planned to show this way. The Extended Look gives Rockstar a chance to replace those clips with polished footage from the version it actually wants players to see.
It should also give fans a much clearer idea of how GTA 6 plays. Rockstar has already shown plenty of Vice City, Jason, Lucia and Leonida through trailers and screenshots, but players still want a proper look at normal gameplay.
The leaks have partly filled that gap, but they come with a major problem. Many of the clips appear to come from unfinished builds, so animations, menus, graphics and other details may not match the final game. That is why the official presentation matters more than any individual leak.
Rockstar can finally show how driving, combat, exploration and the open world work without fans having to guess whether a strange animation or rough visual comes from an old build.
The studio’s statement also gives one useful update on development. Rockstar says the game is nearly finished, which should help calm some concerns about another delay. For now, the company still lists November 19, 2026 as the release date.
The recent leaks may have taken away some of Rockstar’s surprises, but they have also made the Extended Look more important than it was a week ago. Instead of simply being another GTA 6 marketing event, it now gives Rockstar a chance to take control of the conversation again.
Whether that works will depend on what the studio shows. After days of leaked beaches, shops, driving footage and other unfinished gameplay, fans will finally get to see GTA 6 exactly how Rockstar wants them to see it.
