GTA 6 costs $80, making it one of Take-Two’s biggest tests before the game has even launched.
The publisher expects its 2027 financial year to be far bigger than the last one. Its forecast is based on the November 19 release of GTA 6, which Take-Two says is already off to an exceptional start with pre-orders. Take-Two’s latest results make one thing clear: the company sees GTA 6 as more than a big new game.
It is the release Take-Two expects to push the whole business into a new period of growth.
The standard edition costs $79.99. That makes it one of the first major new releases to sit above the $70 price many players have become used to. The Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. Rockstar confirmed both prices when pre-orders opened in June.
There is still no PC version announced. GTA 6 launches first on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 is already changing Take-Two’s plans
Take-Two expects net bookings of between $8 billion and $8.2 billion for the financial year ending in March 2027. Net bookings are the money it expects from game sales, add-ons and other player spending before some accounting adjustments.
That is a large jump from the $6.72 billion it reported for the previous financial year.
The company expects Rockstar Games to account for about 37% of its net bookings this year. GTA 6 is the main reason for that.
Take-Two has a big catalogue. It owns Rockstar, 2K and Zynga, with games such as NBA 2K, Borderlands, Civilization and mobile hits like Toon Blast. Even so, the company has tied its biggest forecast to GTA 6.
That puts extra pressure on Rockstar. GTA 6 does not only need to sell well. Take-Two expects it to help create a higher level of business that can continue after launch.
Rockstar is also still supporting GTA Online before GTA 6 arrives. Its recent GTA Online giveaway gave players GTA$1 million simply for logging in.
Why GTA 6 costs $80 matters for Take-Two
GTA 6 will be a test of what players accept from a premium game in 2026.
Many games now cost $70 at launch. Take-Two is asking $80 for GTA 6, while NBA 2K27 still starts at $70. That shows the company is not treating $80 as the new price for every game it sells.
Instead, it is betting that GTA 6 has enough demand and enough value for players to accept the higher price.
That bet will be watched closely. If GTA 6 sells at the scale Take-Two expects, other publishers may see it as proof that players will pay more for the very biggest games.
If players push back, the opposite could happen. GTA 6 may show that even the most popular series has a limit on what people want to spend at launch.
The game is also important because of what comes after release. GTA 5 and GTA Online have remained major parts of Take-Two’s business for years. The publisher will be hoping GTA 6 can have the same long life.
GTA 6 has already become a test for Take-Two’s future. On November 19, the company will find out whether a higher-priced blockbuster can create the kind of growth it is expecting.
