Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 gave players more than two hours of new games, fresh trailers and release dates. The show covered everything from Gears of War: E-Day and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation to completely new games from HoYoverse and Ubisoft.
The biggest surprise came near the end. CD Projekt Red showed new footage from The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, but it also announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered as a free upgrade. Several other games also locked in release dates for the rest of 2026 and early 2027. Below are some of the biggest announcements from the show, along with the actual YouTube trailers so you can watch them directly.
The Witcher 3 Had the Biggest Surprise of the Show
CD Projekt Red had already confirmed that Songs of the Past would appear at Gamescom, but the studio had another announcement ready. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches September 29 as a free upgrade for existing owners. The remaster improves textures, rendering, combat and movement. CD Projekt Red also talked about new finishers and changes to the ability system.
The studio then showed more of Songs of the Past, the new expansion coming in 2027. Geralt travels to a new region with new quests and monsters, and the footage also showed his unusual chain weapon.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation Finally Showed the Weapons
Square Enix gave Final Fantasy 7 Revelation one of the biggest trailers of the night. Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon and Ultima Weapon all appeared, giving fans their first proper look at how these famous enemies will return in the final part of the remake trilogy.
The trailer also showed more of the Highwind, submarine combat and the much larger world that Cloud and his friends will explore. Square Enix still plans to release Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in Spring 2027.

Gears of War: E-Day Showed More of Emergence Day
Xbox brought a new Gears of War: E-Day story trailer to Gamescom. The game takes place 14 years before the original Gears of War and follows Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during the start of the Locust invasion.
The footage showed the chaos of Emergence Day and gave players another look at the Locust threat. Xbox also confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day launches on October 6, 2026.

Metro 2039 Looks Like a Return to Classic Metro
4A Games showed more gameplay from Metro 2039, with dark tunnels, dangerous areas above ground and plenty of mutants. Weapon customization also returns, giving players more control over how they prepare for fights. The developers described the new story as darker and more personal than before. Metro 2039 now has a February 2027 release window.

Warlock Got a Much Longer Gameplay Reveal
Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons finally showed what playing the game actually looks like. Players control Katri, who makes a pact with Tasha and gains access to powerful magic.
The gameplay showed sword fighting, magic attacks and spells that can interact with the environment. Katri can knock objects onto enemies, use electricity and mix physical attacks with different kinds of magic. Warlock launches sometime in 2027.

Silent Hill: Townfall Is Almost Here
Konami brought Silent Hill: Townfall back with another trailer before its September launch. The footage showed more of the characters, fog-covered locations and creatures that players will face.
The game still looks very different from Silent Hill 2, but it keeps the dark and uncomfortable feeling that fans expect from the series. Silent Hill: Townfall launches on September 24, 2026.

Control Resonant Takes the Series Into Manhattan
Remedy showed a new trailer for Control Resonant, which moves the action outside the Oldest House and into Manhattan. Dylan Faden takes the main role this time. The new footage showed him fighting strange enemies with a large melee weapon while buildings and other parts of the world changed around him. Control Resonant launches on September 24, 2026.

The Blood of Dawnwalker Got One Final Trailer Before Launch
Rebel Wolves used Gamescom to show the launch trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker. The RPG follows Coen, who lives as a human during the day and becomes a vampire at night. The new footage focused on choices and how players can approach different situations. With the game only days away, Gamescom acted as one final big look before release. The Blood of Dawnwalker launches on September 3, 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

Tides of Annihilation Showed More of Its Ruined London
Tides of Annihilation returned with another look at its strange version of London. The game mixes a modern city with Arthurian fantasy, huge creatures and fast action combat. The new trailer focused more on the story and the strange fog that appears across the city. It also showed more combat against some of the game’s larger enemies.

Ananta Finally Has a Release Date
NetEase showed more of Ananta, its colorful open-world action game. The trailer included cars, bikes, city exploration, fights and even some stranger moments involving flying vehicles and a UFO. The biggest news was the release date. Ananta launches on January 15, 2027.

Rainbow Six Is Trying Something Completely Different
Ubisoft announced Rainbow Six Tactics, a single-player game that takes the series away from its usual first-person action. Instead, players control Rainbow operators in turn-based battles. The trailer showed squads moving around maps, taking cover and using familiar operator abilities in a very different style of game. Rainbow Six Tactics launches in 2027.

Exodus Finally Has a Release Date
Exodus returned with another unusual character reveal. This time, the trailer focused on Salt, an awakened octopus who works as a sniper. The game comes from Archetype Entertainment and continues to look like one of the more interesting sci-fi RPGs on the way. Gamescom also brought the release date fans had been waiting for. Exodus launches on April 7, 2027.

Path of Exile 2 Is Finally Leaving Early Access
Grinding Gear Games confirmed that Path of Exile 2 will finally reach Version 1.0 on December 11, 2026. The trailer showed more combat and also confirmed that swords are coming to the game. Version 1.0 marks the full launch after a long period in early access.

Turok: Origins Is Coming in Spring 2027
Turok: Origins returned with a new story trailer filled with dinosaurs, weapons and violent combat. The game takes the old series in a more modern direction while keeping dinosaurs at the center of everything. Saber Interactive now plans to launch Turok: Origins in Spring 2027.

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Is Getting a Full Remake
Ubisoft surprised strategy fans with Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake. The remake rebuilds the classic turn-based strategy game with modern 3D visuals while keeping its armies, heroes and kingdom management. Ubisoft plans to release it in 2027.

Aion 2 Got an October Release Date
NCSoft also showed Aion 2, giving players another look at its large fantasy world, combat and flying. Flight remains an important part of the MMO, while the trailer also showed exploration both in the air and underwater. Aion 2 launches on October 5, 2026.

NO LAW Is One to Watch for Cyberpunk Fans
Neon Giant showed more of NO LAW, a first-person game set in a dark cyberpunk city. The trailer focused on gunfights, neon streets and a much rougher futuristic world. It looks very different from The Ascent, but Neon Giant’s visual style is still easy to recognize. NO LAW is coming in 2027.

Nodusfall Was One of the Night’s Biggest New Game Reveals
HoYoverse opened the main show with Nodusfall, a new co-op action game with a much darker look than Genshin Impact or Honkai: Star Rail. The reveal showed large enemies, fantasy combat and characters calling on powerful abilities during fights. HoYoverse still has plenty left to explain, but it was one of the biggest completely new games shown during Opening Night Live.

Gamescom Had Much More Than These Big Games
Opening Night Live also included Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, Mega Man: Dual Override, Rayman Legends Retold, Sea of Remnants, 1666: Amsterdam, Showa American Story, Crazy Taxi World Tour, Lego Skylines, Pony Island 2, Zoopunk, There Are No Ghosts at the Grand, Dust: Origins and more.
The pre-show added games such as Worms: Galactic Tactics, Train Sim World 7, RollerCoaster Tycoon: Wonderworks, Aniimo, Perceptum, Acornia: Mirror World, Valor Mortis, TankRat, Murals, Humankind 2 and Mariachi Legends.
Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026 did not depend on one huge announcement. Instead, it gave players a long list of games that now feel much closer than they did before the show.
The Witcher 3 Remastered was probably the biggest surprise, while Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day and Metro 2039 gave fans much better looks at games they were already waiting for.
More importantly, many of these games are not years away. September and October alone now have several major releases, while the first half of 2027 is quickly becoming just as busy.
