Epic has named the next Fortnite season and set the clock. The Fortnite Override release date is Thursday 20 August, and Chapter 7 Season 4 goes by the name Override.
Almost everything else you are reading about it came from leakers, not Epic. And the one crossover that did show up inside the game, Epic deleted. The date also lands in the middle of an already crowded month.
Fortnite Override release date and downtime
To begin with, servers go down early on 20 August. The times work out as 1am on the American west coast, 4am on the east coast, 9am in the UK and 5pm in Japan.
Epic has not said how long the downtime runs. It usually takes a few hours, but the company has given no figure this time, so treat any number you see as a guess.
In addition, none of the five reports covering this state exactly when the current season ends. Competitive players have a clearer calendar, since this year’s Pro-Am winners were decided back in July.
What Epic has actually confirmed
Four things, and that is the whole list.
Epic named the season Override. It starts on 20 August. The tagline reads “Break the rules. Change the game.” And the logo uses pixel art and glitch effects, which points fairly clearly at a gaming theme.
That last one matters, because it is the only official hint at what the season is about. A retro gaming look would fit arcade crossovers neatly. It is still a logo, though, not an announcement.
The Pac-Man teaser Epic pulled
Here is the part worth your attention.
Pac-Man’s theme music started playing at Wonkeeland inside the game. The leaker ShiinaBR spotted it and posted about it. Shortly afterwards it disappeared.
Insider Gaming reported the removal and was straight about the limits: the reason “is not clear”, and Epic has said nothing at all. Their own guess is that it went live too early, and they label it a guess.
So of every crossover being reported for this season, Pac-Man is the only one that has ever existed inside Fortnite itself. It is also the only one Epic has taken back out.
The Fortnite Override release date is the only certainty
Outlets are listing Sonic, Persona 5’s Joker and Kingdom Hearts as part of the season. None of them come from Epic. The same goes for the new batch of Sprites, the cosmetics people are describing and the Geno lore theories.
We are not above this either. We covered the Persona 5 leak back on 23 July. Two weeks later Epic still has not confirmed it, which is rather the point.
Leaks in Fortnite are right more often than they are wrong, and dataminers have a strong record. That is not the same as confirmation. Epic changes plans, shifts crossovers between seasons, and as Wonkeeland just showed, pulls things back out of the game.

So if you want to know what is real, wait for Epic. If you want to know what is likely, the leakers are a decent guide. The gap between those two things is where most Fortnite disappointment comes from.
