The Fortnite Override Next Season is starting on August 20, and Epic has finally shown what players can expect.
Chapter 7 Season 4 is called Override, and this time Fortnite is going all-in on video games.
Sonic, Mega Man, Persona, Pac-Man and other gaming names are connected to the new season. The official trailer also shows that Epic is still keeping a proper Fortnite story underneath all of those crossovers.
Players will be fighting to take back the Island and stop Geno.
So this is not just Epic throwing a lot of famous characters into the Item Shop.
The whole season looks like it has been built around gaming.
Fortnite Is Giving Players a Reason to Come Back
Fortnite has done crossovers for years, but Override feels different because gaming itself is the theme.
Sonic is one of the biggest names involved. Mega Man is also part of the season, while Persona, Pac-Man and Tetris are among the other games linked to it.
There are also more surprises in the trailer.
Not everything shown will necessarily be a Battle Pass skin. Some characters could arrive in the Item Shop, while other games may appear through weapons, cosmetics or smaller references.
That does not really hurt the idea.
What matters is that players will keep finding familiar games throughout the season instead of getting one big crossover and then waiting weeks for the next one.
This is where Fortnite continues to have an advantage over games like PUBG.
PUBG is still one of the biggest battle royale games around, but Fortnite has become much more than a normal battle royale.
One week you can be playing as a Marvel character. The next update can bring in Star Wars, anime, musicians or characters from completely different games.
Override takes that idea even further.
If Epic can keep the season busy with new gaming content after launch, PUBG may have a hard time matching that level of attention.
That does not mean Fortnite is automatically the better game.
Some players will always prefer PUBG’s more realistic gunplay and slower style.
But when it comes to giving people something new to talk about every few weeks, Fortnite is very difficult to compete with.
Even Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting More Fortnite Content
Cyberpunk 2077 is another good example of how much Epic is putting into this season.
The game has already been part of Fortnite before.
Johnny Silverhand and V have appeared as skins, and Adam Smasher was added earlier this year.
Now the Override trailer shows more Cyberpunk content.
Adam Smasher can be seen in the trailer, and players quickly noticed weapons that look like the HJSH-18 Masamune assault rifle and TKI-20 Shingen smart SMG from Cyberpunk 2077.
There are also Cyberpunk references around the environment.
That suggests Epic is doing more than simply bringing old Cyberpunk skins back to the shop.
Weapons from Night City could actually become part of how people play during Override.
That is the kind of detail that makes the new season look exciting.
Epic could have stopped at Sonic and called that the big crossover.
Instead, it is bringing together games that normally have nothing to do with each other.
Sonic, Mega Man, Persona and Cyberpunk 2077 all being part of the same Fortnite season sounds strange, but that is also what makes it fun.
Fortnite has reached a point where almost anything can appear and somehow still make sense.
Override starts on August 20.
If Epic can deliver everything shown in the trailer and keep adding surprises during the season, Fortnite may have another very strong few months ahead of it.
And for rivals such as PUBG, keeping up with that constant stream of new content is only getting harder.
