One other game built its whole identity on that rule, and it came out a decade earlier. Darkest Dungeon put four heroes in a line and made position the difference between a hero and a passenger.

Your train is your deck. The locomotive and every carriage you bolt on contribute their own cards, so buying a car does not just add an option, it dilutes the pile you draw from. You run up to five carriages, five action points and a four-card hand, which keeps the maths brutally tight.
Position then layers a second puzzle on top. Carriage order shapes firing arcs, exposure and collisions, and some weapons refuse to cover the squares closest to them. Artillery, for instance, cannot hit nearby grid spaces at all, so parking it where the fighting happens wastes it entirely.

Darkest Dungeon Solved the Same Problem in 2016
Red Hook built a party of four and numbered the slots. Your heroes occupy ranks four through one, the enemy line mirrors it, and every skill lists which ranks it can fire from and which ranks it can reach.
Consequently a Highwayman standing in the wrong slot holds a full toolkit he cannot use. Worse, enemies shuffle your line deliberately, and a shuffled party spends turns walking back into place rather than fighting.
Both games therefore punish the same mistake. You assemble something that reads well on paper, you deploy it in the wrong order, and half your options quietly switch themselves off.
Why This Matters More Than It Sounds
Most deckbuilders treat a card as portable. It works the same whether you drew it first or last, and building well means curating a list. Fogpiercer carriage order breaks that assumption, because the same card behaves differently depending on the metal it is bolted to and where that metal sits.
That gives you a lever other roguelikes do not offer. When a run stalls, you can rearrange instead of rebuild. Move the artillery back, push the armoured car forward, and a deck you already own starts working.
Darkest Dungeon players will find that instinct familiar and will adapt fastest. Everyone else should stop reading their card list and start reading their layout, because in both games the order is the build.
