Escape from Tarkov Tasks No Longer Lock You Into One Quest Chain

Escape from Tarkov tasks now unlock in batches by trader loyalty instead of one long chain, and the Kappa Path achievement is gone for good.

Escape from Tarkov tasks no longer work as one long locked chain. Patch 1.1.0 landed on 3 August after a short delay. It rebuilds how quests unlock, and that changes the early game more than any weapon in the notes.

How Escape from Tarkov tasks unlock now

Previously, progress was strictly sequential. You finished one task for a trader to see the next, and a single quest you could not complete became a wall.

Now trader loyalty level drives it instead. Raise your standing with a trader and you receive tasks in batches, typically two to four at a time, which you can tackle in whatever order suits you.

That matters most when a task depends on something outside your control. A specific spawn, say, or a map you keep dying on. Previously that stopped everything behind it. Now you can simply do one of the others and come back.

Squads gained something too. A group can now share task progress even when teammates do not have that task active. So carrying a friend no longer means replaying content you finished weeks ago.

The chains that survived

Battlestate did not flatten everything, and the exceptions are deliberate. That restraint matters in a genre where rivals keep arriving, as Marathon’s Vault Breaker mode nearly tripling its Steam players showed.

Some quest lines remain strict sequences, and those are the ones gating rare items and crafting blueprints. The reward for linear work is still the scarce stuff.

A few also stay solo only, including The Tarkov Shooter and The Punisher. Battlestate calls finishing those alone an important test of player skill, so squad sharing does not apply.

Kappa Path is gone entirely

The biggest change sits at the top end, where the most committed players live.

Battlestate has cut the Kappa Path achievement entirely. In its place is a new achievement called Dawn of a New Era, and the route to the Kappa container itself is easier than it was.

Battlestate has been plain about why the wider change exists. Tying unlocks to trader loyalty, it says, makes progress “less dependent on specific tasks”.

Read those together and they point the same way. Tarkov is loosening the grip any single quest has on your progress, at both ends of the game. Whether that feels like relief or like a loss of prestige probably depends on how many wipes you have already survived.

It arrives alongside the season’s first wipe, which we covered when 1.1.0 first arrived with Kord Breach. So everyone starts the new structure from zero together. That is the fairest possible way to test it. The full change list sits in the published patch notes breakdown.
