The original 2001 musou had no dodge button at all. You waded in, you swung, and you took the hits. So the headline change in the remaster is a big one, because Dynasty Warriors 3 now lets you evade, and a perfectly timed evade hits back. Koei Tecmo calls it Just Evasion. The stranger part is that you are allowed to switch it off.

How Just Evasion works in Dynasty Warriors 3
The move is a timing input rather than a panic button. Evade an incoming attack at the right moment and the game rewards you with a counterattack, which you can then follow up. Mistime it and you simply move, which against a strong officer usually means you eat the swing anyway.
That changes who you can fight head on. Ordinary soldiers were never the problem in this series. Named officers were, because they interrupt your combo and punish you for standing still. A counter that only lands on good timing gives you an answer to exactly that fight.
Weapon Fusion arrives alongside it. You feed unwanted weapons into a better one, and the fusion carries across their elemental attributes and skills. So the pile of duplicates every musou player ends up with finally has a purpose beyond selling.
True Musou attacks and two player co-op both return unchanged. The package also rolls in the Xtreme Legends expansion, rebuilds more than forty officers in Unreal Engine 5, and lands on 1 October 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, Switch 2 and PC.
The setting most players will miss
You can turn every new feature on or off on its own. On top of that sit two presets, and this is where the real decision lives. Classic Settings strips the additions back towards the original experience, while Normal Settings applies what Koei Tecmo recommends for the remaster. The publisher’s announcement spells the options out.
So think about what you actually want before your first battle. If you played this in 2001 and remember the rhythm, Classic Settings gives you that back, and the difficulty stays where your memory left it. If you have come from a modern action game, leaving the new tools on will feel far less stiff.
Which setup to pick
There is a middle road worth considering too. Turn Just Evasion on and leave Weapon Fusion off, and you keep the combat improvement without softening the loot grind that gave the original its shape. Dynasty Warriors 3 lets you make that call feature by feature, which very few remasters bother to offer.
Whatever you pick, decide deliberately rather than accepting a default. A toggle you never opened is still a choice, and it quietly sets the difficulty of everything that follows. You can check the current feature list on its Steam store page.
