Dead Cells Assist Mode Does Not Disable Achievements, Despite One Persistent Myth

Dead Cells Assist Mode does not disable a single achievement, and the only thing you give up is your Daily Challenge leaderboard score.

Dead Cells Assist Mode has one property that stops most people using it, and the property is imaginary. Players assume switching it on voids their achievements, so they suffer through the runs instead.

It does not. The game’s own wiki is blunt about that. This week the most famous person to ask for an easier Dead Cells clearly had no idea.

What Dead Cells Assist Mode costs you

The official wiki states it plainly. Enabling the mode does not disable achievements, the acquiring of Boss Stem Cells or perfect kill rewards.

There is exactly one penalty, and it is narrow. Your score no longer appears on the Daily Challenge leaderboard. So unless you compete on that board, you give up nothing at all.

That single line changes the calculation for anyone stuck. You can lower the difficulty and still finish the same trophy list as somebody who did it the hard way. The official wiki confirms it.

The nine switches, and which ones actually help

Dead Cells Assist Mode is not one setting but nine. They are Continue Mode, Auto-Hit Mode, Destroy doors in Auto-Hit Mode, Easier Parry, Slower traps, Reveal the map, Trap damage, Enemies Health and Enemies damage.

Continue Mode is the important one, because it addresses the thing that makes people quit. Rather than losing an entire run to one death, you carry on from a checkpoint.

After that, the health and damage sliders do the heavy lifting on a boss wall. Meanwhile Reveal the map and Slower traps help a very different player, namely somebody who dies to the level rather than to the fights.

Why this surfaced again this week

Guillermo del Toro publicly asked Motion Twin for a version of the game without respawning. He said it was for the older, for the elderly players. The developers replied that the feature already exists, then joked about adding the moment to their own Cabinet of Curiosities.

Notice what that exchange really shows. An Oscar winning director loved this game enough to campaign for a change. Even so, he never found a menu that had been there for years.

Ultimately that is a design problem rather than a player problem. If you have been avoiding these settings because you assumed they carried a cost, there is no cost, so go and turn them on.
