NCSOFT just pulled the wraps off one of 2026’s most ambitious games. The Cinder City shooter is a huge open-world co-op game with MMO-sized scale. It unfolds in a fallen, near-future version of Seoul. Better still, it just went public with a Steam page and a first developer preview. So this is a great moment to get familiar with it.
What is the Cinder City shooter?
The Cinder City shooter is an open-world, third-person co-op game with MMO elements. The developer is BigFire Games, an internal NCSOFT studio. NCSOFT, now branded NC, is publishing it. So far, Steam confirms the PC version. Meanwhile, the press reports PlayStation 5 and Xbox versions. NCSOFT is aiming for the second half of 2026, and it carries no price yet. Still, you can wishlist it now on Steam.
The story

The game unfolds in a 23rd-century, post-apocalyptic Seoul. The city has fallen to a maniacal group called Hyde and twisted Creatures. You play as a Cinderknight, one of the last lines of defense. So your job is to fight back and reclaim the ruined city. In fact, the world draws on real Seoul districts for its look. As a result, it feels grounded even as the sci-fi gets wild.
Gameplay

At its core, this is a cinematic open-world game you can play solo or in co-op. Each Cinderknight has distinct abilities and a clear role in the fight. On top of that, tactical gear like drones and stealth widens your options. You can also roam the world in vehicles, from bikes to mechs and aircraft. Meanwhile, the content mixes story missions, side quests and dynamic events. For the endgame, expect field bosses, instanced dungeons and massive world raids.
Graphics and presentation
The game runs on Unreal Engine 5, and it shows. The near-future Seoul looks cinematic and grounded, with realistic firearms. On top of that, coverage points to modern features like DLSS support. However, the system requirements run steep, so this is a demanding PC title. Even so, that ambition is a big part of the appeal.
Why the Cinder City shooter is worth watching
NCSOFT rarely launches a brand-new, big-budget game like this. The Cinder City shooter pairs that scale with a striking post-apocalyptic Seoul. On top of that, it only just went public, so it is fresh in everyone’s minds. Because the studio is aiming high, it ranks among 2026’s most-watched releases. So if you like co-op games with real ambition, wishlist it now. Similarly, Cyberpunk 2077 is another open-world sci-fi hit that just passed 40 million copies.
