The Nintendo Switch 2 Price Increase is now only weeks away, and anyone thinking about buying the console may want to make that decision before September.
Starting September 1, Nintendo will raise the US price of the Switch 2 from $449.99 to $499.99.
That is a $50 jump for the exact same console.
Europe will also see a higher price, moving from €469.99 to €499.99. Canada is going from C$629.99 to C$679.99.
Nintendo has blamed changing market conditions and says those pressures could last for some time.
So if you were already planning to buy a Switch 2, waiting may actually cost you more.
August Is Basically the Last Chance at the Launch Price
The important date is September 1.
Until then, the standard Switch 2 still carries its original $449.99 US price.
After that, Nintendo’s new MSRP takes over.
Retailers may still run their own deals or clear older stock at lower prices, but there is no guarantee those offers will last.
Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has also admitted that the higher price makes it harder for some people to buy the console.
The company still believes strong games will convince people that Switch 2 is worth the money.
That puts even more pressure on Nintendo‘s upcoming lineup.
A $450 console is already a serious purchase. At $500, buyers will expect plenty of reasons to upgrade from the original Switch.
This May Not Be the End of Hardware Price Problems
The Switch 2 increase is also part of a wider problem across gaming hardware.
Console makers are dealing with higher costs, and Nintendo has already said the market changes behind this decision may continue over the medium to long term.
That does not mean another Switch 2 increase is confirmed.
But it does mean Nintendo is not treating the current situation as something that will disappear quickly.
Australia and New Zealand are also getting higher Switch 2 prices on September 1, while Nintendo has already raised prices in Japan.
For players, the message is pretty simple.
If you already know you want a Switch 2, August may be the cheapest time to buy one for a while.
Waiting until September means paying another $50 in the US without getting anything extra in the box.
