Star Wars Galactic Racer has reached 88 on Metacritic for PS5, giving Fuse Games’ racing game a strong start before launch. The first wave of reviews appeared on October 2, 2026, ahead of its October 6 release on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
However, the score needs some context. Metacritic lists a separate average for each platform. When checked on October 3, the PS5 version stood at 88, while Xbox Series X had 86 and PC had 84. These numbers can change as more reviews arrive.

Big games can generate excitement without showing new gameplay. Rockstar’s partnership with the Miami Heat provides a clear example of that. However, Galactic Racer’s attention comes from something more useful to buyers: reviewers describing how it actually plays.
Why Star Wars Galactic Racer reviews look promising
VGC gave the game five stars out of five. Its reviewer praised the handling, presentation and single-player campaign. Instead of working through a fixed list of races, players attempt a racing tour where failure can force them to start the series again.
That structure gives each race something to lose. October’s PlayStation Plus lineup includes a Formula One game, but Galactic Racer offers a different challenge. Here, racing takes place across alien worlds, with vehicles that hover above the ground.
Star Wars Galactic Racer is not for the faint of heart! No rewinds, no do-overs and you cannot blink! It's frickin' awesome!! Thanks to Fuse Games for the early access. My Review in progress, I'm about 20 hours in and hooked! pic.twitter.com/xpW7sjB2bR

Meanwhile, OpenCritic showed a Top Critic Average of 87 when checked on October 3. It also listed 98% of critics as recommending the game. That is not the same measure as Metacritic’s platform scores, even though both point to a positive response.
Big licensed games can attract attention before anyone plays them. Wolverine sparked a discussion about the gap between online reactions and players’ opinions. For Galactic Racer, the useful evidence is what reviewers say about the racing, not just how much they like Star Wars.
VGC’s praise came with limits. The reviewer wanted more planets and more familiar characters. Therefore, even a five-star review does not mean every part of the game satisfied its critic.
The campaign gives speed a reason to matter
The official Star Wars story overview explains the central idea. Shade enters the Galactic League to challenge champion Kestar Bool. Between races, mechanic Hibi helps players fit parts that change their vehicle’s abilities and racing style.
Crash too often and the tour ends. However, some perks and unlocks carry into another attempt. That means restarting is part of the campaign’s design, rather than simply repeating a race until you win.

This is the interesting angle behind the scores. Fast racing provides the immediate thrill, while the tour gives players reasons to change their setup and try another route.
The early verdict is encouraging, but an average score is not a promise that everyone will enjoy the game. Players who dislike restarting a series should consider that campaign structure as carefully as the number beside its name.
