The Witcher 3 Remastered release date is almost here, but CD Projekt Red’s latest look at the upgrade has already started an argument among fans. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered launches worldwide on September 29 with upgraded visuals, new combat animations, a rebuilt skill system, transmog and several quality-of-life changes. Existing owners on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S get the upgrade for free. But one recent comparison has left some players asking an unexpected question: does every part of the remaster actually look better?
The New Visuals Have Split Witcher Fans
CD Projekt recently shared a side-by-side clip showing Geralt using Igni against Drowners in Crookback Bog. The comparison was meant to highlight the remaster, but some fans preferred the original. Replies pointed to differences in colors, fire effects and reflections, with some saying the older version looked more vibrant.
Silver for monsters, steel for humans, silk for… witchers?

That does not mean the entire remaster is a visual downgrade. The clip shows one short scene from a much larger overhaul, and the remaster includes broader lighting, performance and graphical improvements. Still, the reaction shows how difficult remastering a game as loved as The Witcher 3 can be. Change too little and players question the point. Change too much and they miss the original look.
September 29 Is a Global Launch
CD Projekt has also confirmed exactly when players can jump in. The remaster unlocks simultaneously worldwide at 10 AM UTC on September 29. That means 3 AM PDT in Los Angeles, 6 AM EDT on the U.S. East Coast, 11 AM BST in London and noon CEST in Warsaw.
The Continent is trembling, preparing for another cavalcade of the dreaded Wild Hunt.

This is not just a visual update either. Combat animations and finishers have been reworked, the skill tree has been redesigned, monsters have updated behavior and players can finally use transmog to change Geralt’s appearance without sacrificing better equipment stats.
Cross-platform mod support and an expanded photo mode are coming too. Nintendo Switch 2 gets a native version with motion controls, gyro aiming, touchscreen features and Joy-Con 2 mouse support. The remaster is also bringing The Witcher 3 to Battle.net for the first time. The visual debate will probably continue after launch, but players will not have to rely on comparison clips for much longer.
