The RuneScape Dragonwilds console release is finally here, bringing Jagex’s survival RPG to PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo hardware for the first time in the franchise’s 25-year history.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds left Early Access on September 15 and launched in version 1.0 across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. At the same time, action RPG fans have another game to try, as Team NINJA has released a free Alpha Demo for Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember.
RuneScape Dragonwilds Makes Console History
Dragonwilds spent around 18 months in Steam Early Access before reaching its full release. Jagex says the game sold more than 1.5 million copies during that period, making the console launch an important next step.
The 1.0 update adds much more than console support. Players can explore the Scorned Wilderness, take on the Regicide quest and eventually fight Kuldra, the God-Eater, as a new end-game boss.

Crossplay is also live across supported platforms. Players can enable cross-platform worlds, use invite codes and join dedicated servers with friends on different systems.
The RuneScape Dragonwilds console release is also included with major subscription services. Xbox players can access it through Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC Game Pass, while PS5 owners with PlayStation Plus Extra or Premium can download it through the Game Catalog.
Dragonwilds takes familiar RuneScape ideas such as skill progression, crafting and magic and places them inside an open-world survival game. Players gather resources, build bases, craft gear and fight dragons alone or with friends. Jagex is already planning more. The next major update, Luminance, is scheduled for December, while a wider 2027 roadmap will be revealed at RuneFest.
Wo Long 2 Gives Players an Early Look
RuneScape may be the bigger launch this week, but Wo Long 2 also gave RPG fans something unexpected to play. Koei Tecmo confirmed that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember launches March 4, 2027, and its free Alpha Demo is available until September 30 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Steam.
The demo includes part of the Changban battlefield, character creation, online co-op and the sequel’s new Insight Skills. Players who defeat Wuzhiqi can also unlock the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet for the full game.

Nintendo Switch 2 will get Wo Long 2 at launch, but it is not included in the current Alpha Demo. September 15 therefore delivered two very different RPG stories. RuneScape finally broke through the console barrier after 25 years, while Wo Long 2 is letting players test Team NINJA’s sequel months before release.
