Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is, no doubt, one of the most engaging action-adventure games out there. Its stunning visuals, accessible entry point, and engaging puzzles are a few highlights of this game. However, as interesting as this game is, it also has its issues. For instance, a new report reveals that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy currently has an annoying audio stuttering problem on Xbox Series X.
What happened?
As noted by many affected players, the issue seems to occur mostly during Chapter 2 of the game, especially around the market and carnival section. Some affected players reported that the audio cracks or becomes broken in Performance mode. Some other players noted that the audio becomes worse when different sounds are playing at once. When this happens, it becomes pretty difficult to listen to the game’s dialogue and sound effects.
When describing the issue, a Redditor in the r/APlagueTale thread said:
“I’m playing on a Series X and if I choose “Performance” mode, I get unbearably choppy audio. Has this happened to anyone else and if so, did you find a solution?”
After going through the complaints, it seems the Resonance Xbox audio stuttering issue mostly affects players with Dolby Atmos. However, a few other players without Atmos also reported facing the same issue.
How to fix the Resonance Xbox audio stuttering issue
The good news is that there is a simple workaround that several players say has helped them to resolve the issue. One of the users said: “I switched to Quality mode which seemed to solve the issue.”
To try this workaround, we recommend following the steps below:
- Open Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy.
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Locate the Graphics settings.
- Switch from Performance to Quality graphics mode.
- Return to the market/carnival area and check whether the Resonance Xbox audio stuttering issue has stopped.
We recommend the aforementioned steps because multiple players in the main discussion confirmed their effectiveness. Many of the affected players noted that the issue stopped after following the steps above.

Alternatively, turning off Dolby Atmos is another effective fix for this issue. But understand that this issue only works for a few users. We suggest that other players without Dolby Atmos should try the first fix, as this seems to work for more players. Furthermore, going to the audio settings and setting the audio (speaker/headset) to stereo uncompressed also fixes the issue if you don’t have Dolby Atmos.
