PS6 and Xbox Project Helix Specs Leak Shows Big Power Difference

The latest PS6 vs Xbox Project Helix specs rumor gives Microsoft a surprisingly large advantage on paper. According to AMD hardware leaker Kepler_L2, Sony’s next PlayStation could deliver around 40 TFLOPS of GPU compute, while Xbox Project Helix may reach 56 TFLOPS.

Kepler also claims both chips have now taped out, meaning the designs have reached an important stage before manufacturing and testing. That has restarted speculation that both systems could still be heading toward a late-2027 launch.

Xbox Has the Bigger Number, but It May Not Mean What You Think

At first glance, 56 TFLOPS against 40 TFLOPS makes Xbox look roughly 40% stronger. Real games are much more complicated. TFLOPS measure theoretical floating-point performance, not frame rates. Memory bandwidth, CPU speed, GPU architecture, ray tracing hardware, AI acceleration and developer optimization can all change how two consoles perform with the same game.

Kepler says the PS6 also uses AMD’s dual-issue capabilities, which make direct comparisons with PS5-era TFLOPS especially messy. The same leak claims PS6 could have around twice the raw power of PS5 while delivering roughly 12 times faster ray tracing hardware and somewhere around 50 to 70 times more AI compute.

Those AI gains could matter heavily for upscaling and neural rendering. Future consoles may rely less on brute-force native resolution and more on machine learning to produce sharper images and higher frame rates. So Xbox may still have the hardware advantage, but the gap players actually see on a television could be very different from 56 versus 40.

Tape-Out Makes the 2027 Rumor More Interesting

The second part of the leak may actually be more important than the TFLOPS figures. If both chips really have taped out, Sony and Microsoft are much further along than early concept hardware. That fits earlier reports pointing toward manufacturing preparation during 2027.

Microsoft has already officially confirmed Project Helix and says alpha hardware will begin reaching developers in 2027. Sony, meanwhile, has not officially announced PS6 specifications or a release date.

Kepler has previously claimed both systems remain on track for Holiday 2027, but that is still a rumor. Rising memory costs and possible pricing problems could affect final launch plans.

For now, Xbox appears to have the stronger machine on paper. But until Sony and Microsoft reveal final specifications, the 40 TFLOPS versus 56 TFLOPS battle is better viewed as an early look at the next console war, not proof that Xbox has already won it
