The GTA 6 Miami Beach campaign is moving closer to reality after city commissioners narrowly backed plans that could put Grand Theft Auto VI advertising directly along the beachfront.
The Miami Beach City Commission voted 4-3 on September 10 to let the city manager negotiate with Amplify Marketing Inc. over promotional signs and other GTA 6 material on beachfront concession equipment and other approved public property. If the final agreement goes through, the campaign is expected to begin on October 15. That would put GTA 6 advertising across part of the real place that helped inspire Vice City just over a month before the game launches.
Miami Beach Is Opening the Door to Vice City
The approved resolution is fairly specific about what happens next. Miami Beach has authorized negotiations for GTA 6 promotional material on equipment along the beachfront. The city manager could also approve other public property as part of the campaign.
This does not mean the entire city has already been transformed into Vice City. The agreement is still being negotiated, and the resolution itself does not confirm every idea that has been discussed online. It is also separate from the much bigger Miami-Dade County proposal that has generated most of the recent controversy.

That wider plan reportedly discussed ideas such as Vice City branding at Miami International Airport, GTA-themed transit, murals and other promotions around the county. Those proposals have faced very public opposition from Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz and County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez.
Both raised concerns about using government property to promote a franchise built heavily around crime, car theft and violence. Miami Beach has now gone in a different direction, at least for its own smaller campaign. The 4-3 result shows that the decision was far from easy. Still, supporters won the vote, and negotiations can now move forward ahead of the planned October 15 start.
GTA 6 Is Showing a Different Side of Its Criminal Story Too
The controversy around Miami focuses heavily on Grand Theft Auto’s reputation for crime, but Rockstar is also putting much more attention on the personal relationship at the center of GTA 6. Jason and Lucia are not locked into one simple romance throughout the entire game.
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson has explained that their relationship changes depending on how players approach it. Jason and Lucia have to work together during much of the story, but players can lean into them being a couple or keep the relationship closer to two criminal partners working toward the same goal.
There is a dedicated relationship system that tracks how the pair interact. Spending time together can strengthen their connection, while players are not forced to turn every part of their partnership into romance.
The Miami City Commission has voted YES by a majority decision to allow GTA 6 marketing to take place in Miami.

That fits with Rockstar’s official character descriptions. Jason is unsure whether meeting Lucia will become the best or worst thing that ever happened to him, while Lucia believes a life with Jason could offer her a path toward the future she wants.
The relationship mechanic was first detailed during the August preview cycle, so it should not be treated as a brand-new September reveal. However, it adds an interesting contrast to the debate happening in the real Miami.
Officials are arguing about GTA’s criminal image while Rockstar is building a story that appears to care just as much about trust, loyalty and the relationship between the two people committing those crimes.
The Real Miami and Vice City Are Getting Harder to Separate
That is what makes this marketing campaign so unusual. Vice City has always borrowed heavily from Miami, but GTA 6 pushes the connection further with recognizable beaches, nightlife, highways, waterways and South Florida culture.
Now the influence could start moving in the opposite direction. If the Miami Beach agreement is finalized, the real beachfront could carry GTA 6 advertising beginning October 15. At the same time, the wider Miami-Dade campaign remains controversial and should not be treated as approved.
Claims that the Miami Beach deal is already worth around $4 million should also be treated carefully. That figure does not appear in the public resolution currently available.
What we do know is already enough to make this one of GTA 6’s strangest marketing stories. Miami helped inspire Vice City, and now Vice City could be coming back to advertise itself on Miami’s real beaches.
