The Pokémon GO Mega Gengar event brings extra raids and Timed Research to select stores in the United States. However, the raid window, research deadline and gift-card offer do not all end together. Knowing the difference could save players a wasted trip or a missed reward.
The Pokémon TCG 30th Celebration Event runs from September 27 at 10 a.m. to October 20, 2026, at 10 p.m. local time. During that window, Mega Gengar appears more often in Mega Raids at participating retail locations.
According to the official announcement, players may encounter a Shiny Gengar if they are lucky. That is a chance, not a promise. The event also does not turn every nearby store into a participating location. For players checking other community questions, our latest Diablo 4 guide covers reported ways past the Burning Shepherd problem.
The Mega Gengar Event Has Separate Cutoff Dates
Open Pokémon GO at a participating store to receive the event’s Timed Research. Its rewards include Poké Balls and event-themed Pokémon encounters. You must obtain that research before the retail event ends on October 20 at 10 p.m. local time.
You then have longer to finish it. Both the tasks and reward claims must be complete before November 20, 2026, at 10 p.m. local time. Picking up the research is therefore not the same as collecting everything it offers.
A separate gift-card promotion runs from September 27 through October 31, 2026. Redeeming an eligible Pokémon GO gift card bought from Target, GameStop or Best Buy grants a Gengar Knit Cap avatar item.
Each account can receive the bonus once. Players who already own the cap receive a different item of equal value. However, this purchase offer is separate from the store research. Buying a gift card is not a requirement to obtain that research.
Pokémon Collecting Extends Beyond the Phone
There is a wider collecting angle alongside the event. Bandai Namco’s Pokémon Scale World Groudon, Kyogre and Rayquaza figures have reissue listings at BigBadToyStore. These are physical collectibles, not news of another Pokémon GO event.
The retailer’s dates also need care. Its Groudon listing estimates March 2027, Kyogre estimates April and the Rayquaza listing estimates May. Those estimates could change. They are not a single firm launch date for all three.
That makes two very different ways to collect: earn something during a limited in-game event, or wait for a physical figure. As the GTA 6 collector’s box shows, merchandise also deserves a close look at what the purchase actually includes.
Our Palworld coverage explores another mobile creature-collecting story. However, that is a separate subject, just as the figure reissues are separate from Pokémon GO. Neither changes the rules of this retail promotion.
Keep three dates straight. October 20 ends the raids and research pickup window. October 31 ends the gift-card offer. Finally, November 20 is the deadline to finish research and claim its rewards.
