The Marvel Wolverine Lady Deathstrike Design has become another big talking point just days before Insomniac’s PS5 exclusive launches. The studio shared a short new clip focused on Deathstrike, giving fans a much clearer look at one of Logan’s major enemies.
The reaction was immediate. Some players like Insomniac’s new interpretation, while others think Lady Deathstrike looks too different from the character they know from Marvel comics and movies. A few people even initially confused her with Psylocke because of her short dark hair and sword.
Lady Deathstrike Looks Very Different
Insomniac’s version of Lady Deathstrike does not closely copy one famous comic or movie design. She wears practical armor, has short hair and can be seen carrying a sword. Earlier Wolverine footage has also shown her using the claws that have always been an important part of the character.
For longtime fans, however, the differences are easy to notice. Lady Deathstrike is often shown in Marvel comics with long cybernetic claws and a very distinctive appearance. Movie fans may also remember Kelly Hu’s version from X2: X-Men United.

That history means Insomniac was always going to face comparisons. Some social media posts are criticizing her face and overall design, while other players are defending the studio and arguing that Wolverine should be allowed to create its own versions of familiar Marvel characters.
The important point is that the reaction is mixed. It would be unfair to suggest every Wolverine fan dislikes the redesign.
Deathstrike Could Be Much More Important Than Her Look
The current discussion is mostly about character design, but Lady Deathstrike appears to have a major role in the actual game. Insomniac previously confirmed her as one of Wolverine’s important villains. This version of Deathstrike also leads The Hand, the dangerous organization Logan will face during parts of his journey.
That makes her much more than a character who appears for one boss fight. Marvel’s Wolverine is also building its own version of the Marvel universe. Jean Grey, Mystique, Sabretooth and other familiar characters have all received designs and story roles that do not simply copy the movies or one comic series.
Insomniac faced similar debates with its Spider-Man games, especially whenever character faces changed or looked different from what fans expected. The same thing is now happening with Wolverine.
For now, Lady Deathstrike’s new look is getting plenty of attention. But once players experience her story, fights and relationship with Logan, the discussion may move away from screenshots and toward whether Insomniac actually made her a memorable villain.
