A troublesome Fortnite Creative bug involving the Recon Bow is getting renewed attention after Epic Games confirmed that it is actively working on the problem.
The issue can reportedly cause severe lag, freezing and even crashes inside Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) experiences when the Recon Bow is fired repeatedly. Epic’s internal bug ticket, FORT-1116985, was moved to “In Progress” on September 15, indicating that developers are now actively working on the issue.
The bug was originally documented in an Epic Developer Community report submitted on June 11.
Recon Bow can reportedly destabilize populated Fortnite islands
According to the original report, repeatedly firing the Recon Bow inside a server containing a large number of players can cause significant performance problems.
The reported symptoms include hitching, major freezes and crashes. The creator who submitted the bug also warned that the behavior could potentially be exploited by players deliberately firing the weapon repeatedly to disrupt a Creative session.
Reproducing the problem appears relatively straightforward. The report says that in a server full of players, users can trigger the issue by shooting the Recon Bow many times in succession. Instead of remaining stable, the session can begin experiencing severe freezing, hitching and crashes.
The issue was reported as affecting all platforms rather than a particular console or PC configuration. The original submission also includes island code 6155-1398-4059 alongside video evidence demonstrating the reported behavior.
Other Fortnite creators subsequently replied to the thread saying they had encountered similar behavior on their own islands, including performance problems associated with the weapon.
Epic is now actively working on the problem
Although the report has been public since June, the major development came on September 15.
Epic’s automated Bug Reporter updated ticket FORT-1116985 to “In Progress,” adding that the development team was actively working on it.
The status change suggests the issue has progressed beyond its initial reporting stage and is now being addressed internally.
Epic has not provided a confirmed release date for a fix, so Creative developers experiencing the problem currently do not have an official workaround to rely on.
For creators operating larger multiplayer experiences, the bug is particularly notable because the reported effects can extend beyond the player firing the Recon Bow, potentially disrupting the stability and performance of the wider session.
