Fortnite Is Bringing Back Battle Pass Skins and Midas Is Getting a Wild New Look

Fortnite Recon Bow Bug freezing

The Fortnite Battle Pass Skins Return is becoming real for more players, and Epic Games is using this week’s Item Shop rotation to show how different Fortnite’s cosmetic system has become. The latest official teaser points to returning favorites, previously vaulted outfits and a completely new Fractal version of Midas.

Epic teased the week with a simple message promising “unvaulted outfits, returning classics” and a new Sidekick. The short video shows several cosmetics coming across the next few days, with Fractal Midas easily standing out as the strangest addition.

Fractal Midas Gives an Old Favorite a Very Different Look

Midas has appeared in several different forms since becoming one of Fortnite’s most recognizable characters, but Fractal Midas takes him in a new direction.

Instead of simply changing his clothes or giving him another gold variant, the new outfit uses a rough geometric effect across much of his body. His dark suit still keeps some of the familiar Midas look, while the metallic details make the skin instantly recognizable. Fractal Midas is scheduled to hit the Item Shop on September 5.

The first reaction from players is already mixed. Some like that Epic is finally doing something unusual with Midas instead of producing another small variation of the original design. Others think the strange low-poly effect looks out of place, particularly around his face. Either way, another Midas skin was always going to get attention.

Old Battle Pass Characters Are Coming Back Too

The much bigger change may be the return of cosmetics connected to Fortnite Chapter 2 Remix. Characters such as Dynamo TNTina and Undercover Skye were originally part of the Chapter 2 Remix Pass. Other Remix characters included 1-Ball, Chaos Director and Meowdas.

Fortnite players once assumed Battle Pass outfits would remain locked to the season in which they appeared. Epic changed that rule for newer passes in 2024, allowing eligible Battle Pass items to appear in the Item Shop after enough time has passed.

That does not mean every old Battle Pass skin can suddenly return. The change only applies to Battle Passes released after Epic introduced the new policy, and Epic has never promised that every eligible cosmetic will actually come back.

Chapter 2 Remix was one of the early passes covered by the newer system, which is why its cosmetics can now start appearing again. For players who missed that short season, this is the first real chance to buy some of those characters without having completed the original pass.

Fractal Brite Bomber and a New Sidekick Are Also Coming

Midas is not the only character getting the Fractal treatment. Fractal Brite Bomber is also part of the new cosmetic wave, taking another classic Fortnite character and giving her the same unusual geometric appearance.

A new cat Sidekick is also included in the teaser, giving players another companion to bring into matches. The releases appear to be spread across several days instead of arriving in one huge shop update. Fractal Brite Bomber and the new Sidekick are among the earlier arrivals, while Fractal Midas follows on September 5. That gives Epic something new to rotate into the shop throughout the week instead of relying on a single update night.

Fortnite’s Item Shop Is Changing in a Big Way

The return of newer Battle Pass cosmetics could have a much bigger impact than any individual Midas skin. For years, missing a Fortnite Battle Pass meant accepting that many of its characters were gone forever. That gave Battle Pass skins a level of exclusivity that normal Item Shop outfits did not have. Epic’s newer system changes that.

Players who join Fortnite late can now potentially get some characters they missed, while people who originally earned them still had access much earlier through the Battle Pass. Epic also says returning Battle Pass items may not always include every alternate style, which gives the original pass versions some differences.

For longtime players, that will probably remain controversial. Some value the exclusivity that came with completing a season, while newer players have wanted another way to get characters they never had a chance to unlock.

Fortnite now appears ready to test that balance more often. And bringing Midas, Brite Bomber and Chapter 2 Remix characters into the same shop week is a pretty effective way to get people talking about it.
