FC 27’s New Keyboard Controls Broke Numpad Skill Moves but Players Found a Workaround

FC 27’s New Keyboard Controls Broke Numpad Skill Moves but Players Found a Workaround

Since you’re reading this post, you certainly know that EA recently redesigned the PC keyboard controls in FC 27. The new design was introduced to make tactics and gameplay a lot easier to access. EA repositioned the WASD and arrow keys to put core movement and attacking/defending actions closer. To make things a lot easier, EA says players can always customize keyboard bindings. However, some FC 27 players are now reporting that they cannot find the old numpad skill-move remapping options.

The problem

This issue specifically affects players who previously used the Numpad as right-stick inputs. With the numpad remapping option missing, these FC 27 players cannot easily recreate the “right-stick directions” setup from the new keyboard settings. This remapping issue also makes skill moves a lot harder for the players.

An affected player on Reddit mentioned that he has been playing FC 27 on keyboard for a long time. At the time, the keyboard allowed him to use these setups: Numpad 4 → F, Numpad 6 → R, Numpad 8 → G, and Numpad 2 → V. However, with the new FC 27 design, he couldn’t find the old numpad skill-move remapping options. He said even with the single-key bindings, the keys have failed to work effectively.

“The above setup made most skill moves easy to perform on the keyboard. Even though they completely redesigned the keyboard controls and moved everything to single-key bindings, they don’t even work properly.”

When describing the effects, another player mentioned that he stopped playing FC 27 because he can’t ball roll anymore. You can also check here (1, 2, 3) to see reports from other players regarding the FC 27 Numpad remapping issue.

Here’s how to fix the FC 27 Numpad remapping issue

FC 27 Numpad remapping issue

The good news is that EA is fully aware of the issue in which players can’t find the FC 27 Numpad remapping option. While there’s no official fix yet, we’re hopeful that the team will come up with a permanent fix to address the issue.

In the meantime, you can try the following player-suggested workaround. A player suggested editing four entries in the settings file. These entities include:

  • VB_AI_RS_UP
  • VB_AI_RS_DOWN
  • VB_AI_RS_LEFT
  • VB_AI_RS_RIGHT

To do this, go to AppData\Local\EA SPORTS FC 27 and locate the game’s buttonDataSetupV2.ini file. Next, reassign the Numpad to different keyboard keys. After that, save the document and open the properties of buttonDataSetupV2.ini. Under the General Tab, locate Attributes and set it to Read-Only. We’ll continue to monitor the EA team for the official fix and as soon as we find something worth sharing, we’ll keep you posted.
