Blizzard Entertainment released Season 15 of Diablo 4 on September 15, 2026. Since its release, the game has drawn a lot of attention from players. Not only does this game introduce quality-of-life updates, but it also comes with new systems and straightforward, memorable boss battles. Unfortunately, this game also comes with a few issues. Not long ago, we reported an issue in which the game’s Sacred Hunt quest was not working. If you are still experiencing this issue, you can check this Spiritborn fix. According to the latest report, players are now reporting a new issue, in which the Burning Shepherd quest is getting stuck.
What happened?
Many players are reporting a frustrating situation in which they cannot place the Splinter of Destruction on Deckard Cain’s table. One negative effect of this “Burning Shepherd stuck” issue is that it hinders the player’s progression. Since the table interaction fails, players are unable to update the quest objective. This directly halts the entire season’s narrative campaign.
Normally, if players could place the Splinter of Destruction on Deckard Cain’s table, they’d be able to bind its power and unlock the fundamental mechanics of the 15th season. Their inability to do this means they’re stuck on the Burning Shepherd quest.
When describing the issue, a player on the Blizzard Forum said:
“The quest is permanently stuck. Deckard Cain asks me to place the Splinter of Destruction on the table at the Imperial Library, but the Splinter is no longer in my possession and the table cannot be interacted with. There is no way to recover the item or reset the step.”

Under this post, many other players also reported facing the same issue. Another player said his game got disconnected during the The Burning Shepherd quest. After logging in again, he was instructed to place the Splinter on the table but couldn’t locate the Splinter in his Inventory. He also noted that the table couldn’t be interacted with.
- How to fix the “Burning Shepherd stuck” issue
For now, Blizzard Entertainment hasn’t yet dropped any official fix to address this issue. However, a few affected players suggested some workarounds worth trying. One particular fix we recommend is to unlock the seasonal powers on your main character and complete the seasonal quest on another character. Here’s another effective workaround below:
“I was able to get past this by running through the quest with another person. I actually used my daughter’s account and joined her through couch co-op. Once I put the splinter on the table under her account, it automatically advanced my quest step. You can do this by yourself or by joining another player that hasn’t done this step yet.”
However, it’s worth noting that the last suggestion didn’t work for all players. We’ll continue to monitor the Blizzard Entertainment team for an official fix. As soon as we find something worth sharing, we’ll let you know here.
