Gearbox Software released Borderlands 4 version 1.10 on September 10, 2026. This update includes several key additions over previous versions. One of the game’s highlights is that it increases the max level cap by 10 levels. Besides, it also introduced the new Vault Hunter Loveless the Hacker, who adds high-mobility cybernetic combat and a few other effects. As amazing as this new update is, it also brought a few annoying issues. For instance, many players are reporting an issue in which Borderlands 4 is not launching at all. Some players said the game closes within seconds of launching without getting to the main menu interface.
Here’s what happened
Since the release of Borderlands 4 version 1.10, several different players have reported a few bugs affecting the game. The latest issue, which affects Windows PCs, is that Borderlands 4 is not launching. Normally, when you launch the game, it should move to the main menu after a few seconds. However, many players said the game crashes after 6 seconds. One detailed report noted that the game throws an error message: “exception code 0xC0000005 (Access Violation).”
Many of the affected players reported trying a few workarounds, such as reinstalling the game and verifying files but none of this worked to address the issue. Some players also tried disabling overlays and cleaning boots but still couldn’t get the game to launch. When describing the issue, some players said it surfaces because of Windows virtualization features, such as Windows Sandbox and Hyper-V.
Try these fixes if your Borderlands 4 is not launching
Gearbox Software hasn’t yet rolled out any official fix to address this launching issue. However, some players reported that trying the workarounds below can help resolve the issue.
The first solution involves disabling Windows Sandbox if it’s currently enabled. To do this, follow the steps below:
- Open your Windows Start Menu
- Look for “Turn Windows features on or off”
- Open the result and look for Windows Sandbox
- Uncheck Windows Sandbox and click OK to save the settings.
- Restart your PC and relaunch Borderlands 4.

While many players confirmed that this workaround was effective, a few people said it didn’t resolve their issue. Another alternative workaround you can try involves running bcdedit /set hypervisorlaunchtype off from an administrator terminal. After that, consider restarting Windows and relaunching the game.
However, it’s worth noting that all the aforementioned workarounds are not official fixes. Instead, they’re player-reported workarounds. We’ll continue to monitor Gearbox Software for an official fix to address the issue in which Borderlands 4 is not launching. As soon as we find anything worth sharing, we’ll let you know here.
