The BlizzCon 2026 announcements are already much bigger than many fans expected. Blizzard returned to Anaheim with Diablo V, a completely new StarCraft game, World of Warcraft: Forever and several surprises across almost every major Blizzard franchise.
The Opening Ceremony also brought new Diablo IV content, a Netflix Diablo series, Overwatch changes, Hearthstone’s next expansion and even a brand-new Warcraft III campaign. Here is everything major Blizzard revealed during the opening show.
Diablo V Is Official and Coming in Spring 2029
Blizzard finally confirmed Diablo V, with the next main game in the series targeting spring 2029.
The setup is darker than usual. Sanctuary has fallen, Diablo has won and the heroes who once protected the world have been defeated. Blizzard says the new game will explore what players must become when there is no safe world left to protect. A full platform list has not been announced yet.
A New StarCraft Open-World Shooter Is Coming in 2030
StarCraft is finally getting a new standalone game, but Blizzard is not returning with another traditional RTS.
The new project is an open-world shooter led by Dan Hay, the former Far Cry executive producer. Blizzard showed a cinematic featuring Terran soldiers and confirmed that the game is currently targeting 2030. The announcement trailer is called “Dominion,” but Blizzard has not clearly presented Dominion as the game’s final title. Calling it StarCraft 3 would also be premature until Blizzard officially names it that.
World of Warcraft: Forever Is Blizzard’s Answer to Classic Plus
One of the biggest surprises was World of Warcraft: Forever, launching November 4, 2026.
Forever starts from the world and feel of original vanilla WoW but does not simply repeat the same content forever. Blizzard plans to add new zones, dungeons, raids, talents, skills, race and class combinations, battlegrounds and alternative directions for familiar parts of Azeroth. It will exist alongside modern World of Warcraft and the existing Classic versions.
Warcraft III: Reforged Gets a Brand-New Campaign Today
Blizzard also gave Warcraft III fans something few people expected.
Warcraft III Reforged: Forsaken Kingdom is a new campaign following events around Lordaeron and the Forsaken. Blizzard says it includes more than 30 hours of campaign content, familiar heroes, new characters and gameplay improvements. Even better, it was shadow-dropped during BlizzCon and is available today. It is the first completely new Warcraft III campaign in more than two decades.
World of Warcraft: The Last Titan Gets Its First Teaser
Blizzard also gave fans an early look at The Last Titan, the final chapter of the Worldsoul Saga.
The short teaser did not reveal everything Blizzard has planned, but it confirmed that the story is moving toward the huge conclusion teased when the three-part saga was originally announced. The Last Titan is expected in 2027.
World of Warcraft: Midnight Gets Eclipse
Before reaching The Last Titan, Blizzard still has more planned for Midnight.
A new Eclipse reveal trailer focused on Xal’atath and the growing threat facing Azeroth. Blizzard used the trailer to tease the next major part of Midnight’s story rather than fully explaining every feature during the Opening Ceremony. More details are expected through the World of Warcraft panels at BlizzCon.
Overwatch Reveals New Support Hero Doctrine
Overwatch’s next hero is Doctrine, a vampire-inspired Support character connected to Doomfist.
Doctrine uses a scepter, special infusions and bat-like drones to manipulate lifeforce and support teammates. Players do not even have to wait for Season 5 to try him, because Blizzard opened a limited Hero Trial running from September 12 through September 14. Doctrine officially joins the roster when Season 5 begins on October 6.
Overwatch Is Getting a New Map and Major Hero Reworks
Doctrine was not the only Overwatch reveal.
Blizzard announced Watchpoint: Grímsvötn, a new Escort map set around a remote prison inside an Icelandic volcano. The location is connected directly to Doctrine and Doomfist’s story. Sombra and Roadhog are also receiving major reworks in Season 5. The biggest change is Sombra moving from Damage into the Support role. Blizzard even teased Hero 55 and confirmed another Overwatch Spotlight presentation for February 2027.
Blizzard Is Giving Overwatch Players a Free Mythic Reward
There was also a surprisingly generous BlizzCon reward.
Players who complete one Overwatch match after the Opening Ceremony can earn a Mythic Voucher. That voucher can be exchanged for one eligible complete Mythic bundle from Seasons 1 through 14. The reward can be earned and redeemed until October 5.
Diablo IV’s 30th Anniversary Season Brings Back the Prime Evils
Diablo IV is celebrating the franchise’s 30th anniversary with Season of Hell’s Legacy.
Deckard Cain returns to guide players through memories of Diablo’s past. Players will face Diablo, Baal and Mephisto, collect Splinters of Evil and gain powers connected to the Prime Evils. Blizzard is also recreating familiar locations and encounters from older Diablo games inside Diablo IV. Season of Hell’s Legacy begins rolling out September 15.
Diablo IV Is Coming to Nintendo Switch 2
The long-rumored Switch 2 version is now official.
Diablo IV: Age of Hatred Collection launches for Nintendo Switch 2 on September 15. It includes the base game, Vessel of Hatred and Lord of Hatred. That puts Diablo IV on Nintendo hardware for the first time.
The Amazon Is Coming to Diablo IV
Blizzard is also bringing back one of Diablo’s most famous classes.
The Amazon arrives in Diablo IV during the first half of 2027. She will use bows and the returning javelin, which Blizzard says will be a completely new weapon type for Diablo IV. The class is being built around four broad styles: Champion, Skirmisher, Ranger and Commander.
Diablo Is Getting a Netflix Animated Series
Diablo is also moving outside gaming.
Blizzard and Netflix confirmed that a new animated Diablo series is now in development. Blizzard did not reveal a release date, cast or detailed story during the Opening Ceremony. For now, the main confirmation is that the show will take place somewhere within the Diablo universe.
Hearthstone Reveals Reign of the Black Empire
Hearthstone’s next expansion is called Reign of the Black Empire.
The expansion takes players far into Azeroth’s past during the age of the Old Gods. Blizzard showed new cards and mechanics during the presentation, along with a new Journal feature designed to tell stories connected to previous expansions. The expansion is planned for October 20.
Hearthstone Is Finally Getting the Monk Class
Hearthstone also revealed another major addition for 2027.
The Monk will become the game’s next playable class in March 2027. Blizzard only gave players an early cinematic look during the Opening Ceremony, with more details coming closer to release. It is one of Hearthstone’s biggest class additions in years.
Heroes of the Storm Is Getting Xal’atath
Heroes of the Storm even returned to the BlizzCon spotlight.
Blizzard revealed Xal’atath, the Harbinger of the Void, as a new character joining the Nexus. That alone surprised fans because major development on Heroes of the Storm was scaled back years ago. Blizzard has not yet given a final release date for Xal’atath.
BlizzCon 2026 Is Off to a Huge Start
The Opening Ceremony alone gave Blizzard fans several announcements that could easily have carried their own events.
Diablo V is officially happening, StarCraft is finally returning with a new game, Warcraft III somehow has a new campaign, and World of Warcraft: Forever is turning the long-discussed Classic Plus idea into a real product. And BlizzCon is not finished yet. More Diablo, World of Warcraft, Overwatch and other developer panels are taking place across September 12 and 13, so this list could grow before the weekend is over.
