Bill Skarsgård Confirmed as PHYSINT Lead in Hideo Kojima’s New Game

Bill Skarsgård Confirmed as PHYSINT Lead in Hideo Kojima’s New Game

The PHYSINT Bill Skarsgård lead role is now official. Hideo Kojima surprised viewers at the end of Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show 2026 broadcast by confirming that the It and Nosferatu actor will play the protagonist in his upcoming action-espionage game.

Kojima also revealed a new PHYSINT poster showing Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser. It is another major update for a game that only recently changed publishing partners after PlayStation stepped away and Xbox came in to keep the project moving.

Bill Skarsgård Is Leading Kojima’s Return to Espionage

Skarsgård is best known for playing Pennywise in It, but his career also includes Nosferatu, John Wick: Chapter 4, Barbarian and The Crow. Kojima said the two had been fans of each other’s work before deciding to collaborate. Kojima Productions already completed costume fittings, full-body scans and camera tests with Skarsgård and Fraser earlier this year.

Those tests appear to have played a big part in shaping the look of PHYSINT. The new promotional image features both actors together and carries the line “The Next Cold War Begins,” giving us another small clue about the direction of the game’s story.

Kojima still has not revealed the protagonist’s name or explained exactly what role Skarsgård will play inside the conflict. PHYSINT itself remains deliberately mysterious, but Kojima continues to describe it as a next-generation action-espionage project and a major return to the genre he helped define through Metal Gear. Skarsgård joins a cast that already includes Charlee Fraser, Don Lee and Minami Hamabe. Kojima says more cast announcements will follow.

PHYSINT Is Moving Forward Quickly Under Xbox

The timing of the reveal is especially interesting because PHYSINT only switched publishers days ago. PlayStation originally announced the game with Kojima Productions in 2024, but Sony ended its involvement earlier this year. Kojima later explained that his studio spent roughly three months searching for a new partner because it did not want to cancel the project.

Xbox eventually stepped in. The new TGS appearance shows that the change has not stopped Kojima Productions from moving ahead with casting and pre-production work. Kojima said PHYSINT is making steady progress, although there is still no release date.

It is also important not to jump ahead on platforms. Xbox is now publishing PHYSINT, but a complete final platform list has not been publicly detailed, so calling it an Xbox console exclusive would be premature. The TGS reveal therefore gives us something much more concrete than publisher speculation: we finally know the face of Kojima’s next espionage protagonist.

Kojima Also Had an OD Update

PHYSINT was the biggest surprise, but Kojima used the same appearance to give fans another look at OD – KNOCK. New behind-the-scenes footage showed Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer working through performance-capture sessions. Kojima said development is progressing smoothly after production faced earlier interruptions.

OD remains a very different project from PHYSINT. Kojima has described it as an experiment built around fear, while PHYSINT is designed around action and espionage. That makes Xbox’s relationship with Kojima Productions unusually broad. Microsoft is now involved with two completely different Kojima projects at the same time, with PHYSINT adding a major Hollywood lead to the mix.

For now, Bill Skarsgård is the headline. Kojima’s next espionage game still has plenty of secrets left, but its protagonist is no longer one of them.
